A Solo Show/New Work

It has been a very busy year so far... As I have eluded to in my last few blogs, I have been getting ready for a big event. That event being my first solo show which will open the first week April at The Art Base Annex in Basalt Colorado. I will update all of you when I get the official PR package and web links. 

I wanted to give you a taste of some of the work I am creating for my Mechanical Love Stories show. All of the work is telling the story of the missing link between a craftsman and the work them and the tools create.

The sculpture will tell a story the closer you look at each one of them.

I have been working diligently on a number of new works for my upcoming solo show, Mechanical Love Stories, at the Art Base annex in Basalt, Colorado. I like to post on social media my current works in progress to keep those interested in my work updates and a visual progress report of my new works in sculpture and photography, it's great to get the feed back. Like this one I posted yesterday;

But today the coolest thing presented its self: an other artist saw my work and did his own rendition of the work above! I could not be more pleased.

Tools in a entirely different light.

April 8th, is a exciting day, it is the opening of my first solo show at the Art Base Annex in Basalt, which is a quaint artisan community just outside of Aspen, Colorado. The work I am showing is part of what I am calling Mechanical Love Stories. The focus of the my work is to tell the silent stories and visual history of the tools and the people that relied on them to live their lives. 

Here are some of the newest pieces of work that I am working on for the show. 

"Do It Better With Glue"

Latest work "Better With Glue" 40" x 26.5" Pine, masonite, glues and adhesives, ink print.

This took over 3 months to produce and It was so worth the effort. I used over 3 gallons of various glues to create the amazing textures that upon closer inspection make you want to touch the work. Reminiscing about how I used to peel dried glue off of my hands, I remembered how much I enjoyed the texture, this is where this piece began. 

"165 MPH 1948"

This is the newest addition to my "Mechanical Love Stories" ca 165 MPH 1948.

In the post war era of the forties and fifties, design and peoples priorities stated to change, Life became empowered. Post Wall Street  crash, confidence was coming back as well as the strength of America. We were once again emboldened. Bigger, badder, faster, stronger was now the current vernacular. 

This piece is a reflexion of values of that time. The model name alone, Speedmatic, in a bold Hot Rod font speaks of what the manufacturer was telling the consumer, Set some records and stay out of my way.
